The Adamas are a Tauron family who live in Caprica City. They have strong connections to their homeworld, other local Taurons, and to a Tauron-based criminal organization, the Ha'la'tha.
Tauron[]
William Adama Sr. and Isabelle Adama were poor farmers on the planet Tauron. They had two sons, Joseph and Sam. They were members of a Tauron resistance group called the Ha'la'tha. The Ha'la'tha fought the corrupt Tauron government, its military arm, the Heraclides, and their murder squads.
The Heraclides investigated the death of a Herac soldier. Their investigation led them to the Adama home. Their interrogation methods were brutal. Isabelle was tortured and killed by the Heracs. William was tortured. However, before the Herac soldiers could kill him, Joseph shot them from his hiding place, killing all but one of them, who was severely wounded.
William asked his son to "return him to the soil" because he was too wounded to escape and more Heracs were coming. Joseph reluctantly killed his father.
Joseph and Sam escaped. Orphaned, they lived on the streets and pledged their loyalty to each other above all else. ("The Dirteaters")
Life on Caprica[]
The brothers Joseph and Sam Adama immigrated to Caprica as children after they were orphaned in the Tauron Civil War (12YR-14YR). They moved into a refugee orphanage in Caprica City. Sam and Joseph joined the Ha'la'tha as children. The boss of the Caprican Ha'la'tha, the Guatrau, took them under his wing. By this time, the Ha'la'tha had become an organized crime organization. ("Pilot") ("The Dirteaters")
While growing up on Caprica, Sam unsuccessfully hit on the guys in Little Tauron, the Tauron enclave in Caprica City. He grew up to become a Ha'la'tha enforcer. Sam married Larry, who was a non-Tauron. They do not have children because of the dangerous nature of Sam's job with the Ha'la'tha. Their marriage is a happy one. ("Pilot") ("Rebirth") ("Reins of a Waterfall") [1]
Joseph assumed the name "Adams" to fit in better with Caprican society. The Guatrau paid for Joseph's law school education. In college, Joseph met Evelyn, who became his legal assistant and life-long friend. He became a lawyer for the Ha'la'tha, defending its members in court and bribing judges. He does not delve as deeply into Ha'la'tha culture as Sam does. ("Pilot") ("Reins of a Waterfall")
Joseph married Shannon, who was also of Tauron descent. Their children, Tamara and William (Willie), were born on Caprica (26YR and 29YR respectively). Tamara attended Promethia High School and Willie attended Wilson Elementary School. ("Pilot") ("Rebirth")
Sam and Larry were devoted uncles to their nephew. They spent time with him like having dinner and taking him to school. Larry taught Willie about the gods important to his father and his Uncle Sam (Jupiter and Mars respectively). ("Reins of a Waterfall") ("False Labor")
Tragedy[]
Shannon and Tamara Adama were both killed in the MAGLEV bombing on Maius 7, 42YR, which was Willie's thirteenth birthday. Shannon's mother, Ruth, looked after Joseph and William and took care of the home. Joseph changed his name back to Adama.
Two weeks after the bombing, Daniel Graystone created a sentient avatar of Tamara by combining the collection of her memories and experiences with a copy of his daughter Zoe's sentient avatar program. He then resurrected her into the Virtual World as a Twin as a favor to Joseph - to show him how he could bring their loved ones back from death. Joseph was horrified by the result, however, and declared it to be an abomination. ("Pilot")
After the deaths of his wife and daughter, and lost in grief, Joseph became an absent father. Sam stepped in to mentor his nephew. He took Willie to Little Tauron and taught him about Tauron culture. He introduced Willie to the ways of the Ha'la'tha. Willie spent time with his uncle at Goldie's Off Track Betting, which is the Ha'la'tha hangout in Caprica City. ("Rebirth") ("Reins of a Waterfall") ("There Is Another Sky")
Several months after the deaths of his mother and sister, Willie was killed in a tragic accident, the unintentional result of a hit on Joseph and Sam ordered by the Guatrau. In order to avoid a mob war, Joseph and the Guatrau's daughter, Fidelia Fazekas, made a deal. She arranged an opportunity for Joseph and Sam to avenge Willie's death by killing her father. This is Blood for Blood - the Tauron way. ("Here Be Dragons") ("Apotheosis")
Renewal[]
Joseph married Evelyn. They had a child, Bill Adama, whom they named after his deceased older step-brother, Willie, in accordance with Tauron tradition (43YR).
On the fifth anniversary of his death, Willie was remembered in a family ceremony. Young Bill was then dedicated to carrying on the tradition of the Adama family (47YR). ("Apotheosis")
Legacy[]
Bill will grow up to become Admiral William Adama, Commander of the Battlestar Galactica, who will lead humanity to their new home after the Cylons destroy their worlds (100YR).
