Zoe Graystone was the daughter of Daniel Graystone, (CEO of Graystone Industries and inventor of the Holoband) and Amanda Graystone (a plastic surgeon). Zoe lived with her parents in a lakeside mansion near Caprica City and attended the Athena Academy, an exclusive private school.
Zoe and her friend Lacy Rand had been attending V-clubs, nightclubs that exist only in the Virtual World, through use of Holobands. A computer whiz, Zoe took her standard avatar and developed sentience for it by datamining past records of herself. Becoming bored with the hedonistic activities at the club, Zoe becomes involved, through her boyfriend Ben Stark, with a monotheistic group known as Soldiers of the One. ("Pilot")
She decided to leave with her friends for the planet Gemenon, bringing the Avatar with her. As they entered the MAGLEV train, Lacy balked and stayed behind.
Zoe sent her mother an email via e-sheet forgiving her and chided Ben about his moodiness. Ben revealed the explosives he was wearing and detonated them.
It is revealed in Things We Lock Away that Zoe is the one who originally conceptualized the designs for the U-87 Cylon. Daniel stole her early drawings of the chassis and used his company's resources to refine the design into a workable robot.
